My printer says I'm out of ink and won't print. When I hold the stop button down for 5+ seconds it prints just fine. How can I get around this?

Greetings,
I have a few questions.
How old is the printer?
Are you using Canon inks?
The behavior you describe sounds like the ink absorber might be full?

Printer is 1 year old, I replaced with a remanufactured 3rd party (Sanune) XL cartridge. I've no idea what an ink absorber is.
