Code 5,157,69 - MG5520

I have a PIXMA MG5520 printer.  The printer works, the copier works, but when I try to scan, I get a Code 5,157,69.  I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software, but nothing seems to work.  So my guess is that there is a setting which somehow got changed.  Please help.

I am using Canon E460 and it has been working fine before. I recently updated my PC to Widows 10. I have downloaded all the necessary drivers for the printer but now I cant scan from the Canon Quick Menu. I keep getting the Code 5, 157, 69 message. What is wrong? Can anyone help please?

Not solved for me. I am using Canon G7040

I had the same error: the problem was, that a mac scanner utility was connected to the scanner already and my wife tried to scan on another windows machine. So if you get this error, check for other (mac) devices.

After much research, I think that I have finally found a solution that worked for me.  I have MX490 on Windows 10.  When I did the Paint test, listed above, it gave me 2 different scanning options for the same system.  Here is what I believe happened.  When I used Windows plug and play to add a device it created a  generic driver system.  Then, I downloaded the actual drivers from Canon. That created another device and driver system for the same scanner.  Having 2 drivers for the same system does not work.  I believe that the combating drivers/software is when you get the error message "system cannot connect because another user or program is using the system".  This is one of the issues I had, along with the error codes in this feed.

So, Here is my solution:

click Start/search

click Control Panel

click or search for Device Manager

click Imaging Devices

single click and hi-lite the driver that you do not want to keep and using the scroll bar on top click X for delete.

Only having 1 driver system solved my problems.

Hope this helps you as well.

6 years later after this reply was shared and a few Windows OS's later, this tip still works in Windows 8. Not sure what precipitated for this to happen, but we need more of these forward-thinking programming efforts on the root level of all devices such as this effort, going forward. Thank you, @Ramona. ❤️

I have the same problem. I can print but keeps getting the same error messages as above. Tried all solutions and nothing yet

Hi,

If you continue to have difficulties with this error after reviewing the pages in this thread, I recommend you reach out to Canon support. You will need to register your Canon gear HERE to access additional support options.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Turning off my work VPN did not work, nor did uninstalling and re-installing the drivers, or disconnecting and reconnecting my USB cable. For years I had used the printer and scanner via a USB connection without issue, then one day I started receiving Code 5,157,69 and was unable to scan. After trying everyone's suggestions without the issue being resolved, I decided to setup wi-fi on the printer and miraculously the IJ Scan Utility was able to connect to the scanner. I hope this will help someone else having issues as well.
