Canon Pixma MG5522

This multi function print-copy-scan Canon keeps providing Support Code 5B00 and tells me a Printer error has occurred.  From checking various sources online, unplugging it and plugging it back in with other procedures like holding down buttons at certain intervals have not remedied the issue. My impression that it's likely a problem with the ink absorber, but I can't gain access to it to try to clean it.  That might not be the problem anyway.  Any ideas for a cure?  Thank you for your help.

It looks like an ink absorber...I had a similar problem with my Canon (this exact model: https://productz.com/en/canon-pixma-mg3650/p/WG1L0) a few months ago and I replaced the printer with a new one...

It may be the ink absorber, but I can't figure out how to access the foam pad so I can clean it.  The carriage holding the ink cartridges isn't accessible either.

Hi,

The issue is being caused by the ink absorber pads inside the printer. It would be more cost effective to replace the printer compared to having the ink absorber replaced and the absorber counter reset.

You would qualify for the Canon Upgrade program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service or are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This program allows you the opportunity to purchase a replacement product discounted from the list price. Free ground shipping is included with your purchase.
