I am seeking an official statement from Canon regarding the long-term availability of genuine GI-20 ink for the PIXMA G7020 MegaTank printer.
The printer remains a supported Canon product, yet genuine GI-20 ink is unavailable at major retailers in my area. Even major online retailers frequently do not offer immediate availability.
I am not requesting technical support. I am requesting information regarding Canon's plans for continued production, distribution, and support of GI-20 ink products.
Please provide answers to the following:
• Is GI-20 ink still being actively manufactured?
• Does Canon intend to continue supporting the PIXMA G7020 with genuine GI-20 ink?
• Is the current lack of availability due to a temporary supply issue or a long-term reduction in production?
• What assurances can Canon provide to existing G7020 owners regarding future ink availability?
Thank you for your assistance.

Canon is actively still selling this model online through their partnerships with various vendors, such as Amazon. Office Depot/Max do not stock the GI-20 inks in their stores and when I attempt to order them, they state the ink is unavailable due to backorders. Even Amazon does not have them available for immediate shipment, listing a 1-2 ship time. No other office supply store in DFW stocks them. To be clear, are you stating that the only place that I can purchase ink is through Canon?

I see inks for this printer available from Dell, Walmart, Staples, Canon, Amazon, Office Depot, Costco and B&H Photo.
Many brick and mortar stores that don't have something like this in stock (for pickup) will ship it to your home for free. I suggest purchasing from an authorized dealer to ensure you get OEM ink.

JimDujka, it depends on if you want Canon ink and not third party ink. There is plenty of third party ink for your printer on Amazon.

All of which show as unavailable due to back order when you try to place an order. The question is why is this ink not available to purchase IN STOCK at any office supply store? Multiple mega tank models use this ink type. Canon is still actively selling this model.

Why should I need to buy 3rd party ink for a printer that Canon states they still actively support and their own website states to not use 3rd party inks?

You can still buy it from Canon with free shipping, and most likely any store that had it would charge the same price.

So I can only buy it from Canon... That doesn't sound like a very supported product. I also have an Epson that is almost 10 years old and I can walk into any office supply store, Target, or Walmart and still buy it's ink off the shelf. My Canon is 2 years old.

Staples sells the genuine Canon ink for your printer online as well, I don't know if it is in the stores, there is no Staples in my town. They have the color pack and sell the black ink by itself. Walmart has the color pack in stock in my area. They do not have the black ink right now.
