Can Driver Update be installed using a USB Flash Drive?

My printer, along with many others by the looks of this forum, is stuck in a reboot loop. It appears Canon has released a firmware update which must be installed manually while not connected to the internet. But it requires a USB cable. Can the driver be installed using a USB Flash Drive? Can I download the driver to a Flash Drive and install it directly by plugging the drive directly into the printer?

If it's not possible, will Canon reimburse USB-B cable purchase since the USB cable wasn't included with the printer

Greetings,

Yes.  Has to be done via USB cable.  Since a USB cable is consider an accessory, its not a reimburseable item.  Same way a USB stick is considered an accessory.

Hopefully something like this won't present too much hardship:

Found this on the support pages:

Method 3: If available, connect the affected printer using the Access Point Mode (also known as Wireless Direct).
So I set up my printer using Access Point Mode Wireless Direct to my Mac. The printer is now showing Idle, default and green so I know it's hooked up.

Now, how do I update the drivers? When I run the utility it says, "Printer Not Found". Any ideas?

Greetings,

FW should not be upgraded using wireless.  If there is any interruption in the connection, you printer could be bricked.  Use a cable.
