Call to Arms for the dreaded U052 Wrong Printhead Error

macnicol
Enthusiast

This is a "call to arms" for all of you Canon customers who have had this problem and have had their printers disabled because of it.  Please respond with the model of your printer and if you were able to fix it, what you did to fix it.

We need to put pressure on Canon to respond this product defect.  It appears to be bad firmware that does not allow the user to override the problem and to continue to use the printer even in a degraded mode.  From my investigations the problem is NOT a printhead issue - no way one can be printing fine and then have this error alert without having changed the printhead or ink cartridges!

Canon, PLEASE take this issue seriously and provide a solution across the affected models.  If nothing else there should be a trade-in allowance for those printers that have been affected by this product defect.

I have had many Canon printers because they have superior functional specifications. I want to be able to continue using Canon products but only if I can have confidence that this product defect will not destroy my investment.

If Canon is unresponsive our next step should be to aggressively publisize this product defect on social media and on major product vendor outlet sites as negatives reviews.

Forum Users, please reply with your affected model number(s) and with details of any succdessful fix procedure.

Did they just delete the case and attornies info?

Can anyone explain how this info breaks the forums' guidelines:

My printer is an MX882. What is the solution to correcting this U052 error? Thankyou, Tim

No fix, no apology for this time bomb?

Shame on you Canon, shame on you.

Update. Briefly managed to bring printer back to life! Problem is U052 hit back. Anyhow this is what I did:

Opened cover while printer was on and took out one of the cartridges;
Replaced it with empty cartridge,
While cover was still open unplugged and replugged it;
Erased printer's memory;
Unplugged and left it alone;
When hours later plugged and turned it on got out of ink error;
Pressed OK and printer sprung back to life;
Connected it to PC and PRINTED one page;
Left it on for future use...

Then, went back to print and got blank page. Restarted it and got U052 error again!

Hope this works for some - will this post also get deleted? The one just below got erased within seconds as they gave too many details about the law firm dealing with this.

This message left intentionally blank to match the response we've received from Canon to date.

I just got my last post deleted. I mentioned the you know what.

No, they can also make false promises, lying publicly about their efforts in "investigating" and "resolving" our complaints.

Another load of messages including Aardvark's were deleted.
Top class actions "moc tod" reversed has a good summary of the case.
Canon has moved into the recycling industry!

Censorship is alive and well at Canon. Recycle your money. Cut out the middle man. Send your cash straight to landfill instead of buying a Canon printer.
Always hate to see corporate ripoffs by companies we used to trust.
