I haven't downloaded any pix for a while and suddenly find I can't. First, the driver had disappeared from my laptop so I downloaded it again. Then, when going to install it, I got the message that couldn't be done because I had to be on the Internet. Duh! I'm on the Internet and everything checks out. I'd really appreciate someone telling me what I have to do. Thanks in advance to whoever can help.

What are you trying to do?
It does not take a driver to connect camera to computer, or any software. You can get photos to computer using a USB cable. The camera should appear as a drive on Windows, Mac, Linux. Did this happen previously?
You can also use an SD card reader that plugs into a USB port on the computer.

Thank you for responding. Until now, I've used an SD card reader into a USB port, which downloads to a DCIM folder. The DCIM folder seems to have disappeared, so maybe whatever caused that to happen is involved. Yesterday I got absolutely nothing when I inserted the card reader. Today I'm put into a page I've never seen before that's all about downloading to the Cloud, which I have no interest in doing. I don't understand why I can't just download to my laptop with it. Is this something Canon software has changed? I'm baffled 😞

Since my earlier reply, I've found that removing and reinserting the card reader got a response that did allow me to download the pix. I don't know the terms for most of the features and functions, but this time I got an entirely different download screen that had other stuff on it, too. Fortunately, it did the simple job I wanted to be done. I have no idea when, where, or how the change was made -- by HP, Microsoft, Canon....? I'mstillconfused because Canon USA shows a driver for my camera, which is what I was trying to install. Now you say I don't need one. God bless Canon! I really like their products but they seem to be masters at producing confusion! Anyway, thank you very much for responding.

There isn't any :download screen" when you insert the card reader in the computer. It shows up as a drive. Open it and there is a folder labelled "DCIM". Photo files are in it. Nothing has changed by HP, Canon, Microsoft. There's been nothing to change.
Where do you see Canon showing a driver for the camera, that is needed to connect the camera to your computer?

Whatever you say! The fact is that I didn't get the screen I've been using for years when I inserted the card reader this time. The new screen is very different -- small and with a royal blue background and a variety of options. Something obviously changed. As for where I came across the driver, it was in the course of my usual experience with Canon by going to whatever links I could try that looked promising. I don't recal exactly where I finally came across that option. I'm glad I was finally able to download my pix. Again, thanks.
