I just tried on Sonoma and it too didn't work.
Turned on and off. Disconnected and reconnected the cable.
Quit all apps that could have been using the camera and left it for about 10-15 minutes.
Tried again, it worked. I could see the remote shooting screen.
Will now try on Sequoia.
I've been seeing that connection modal for many months now sometimes it still works despite the message.

I have tried what has been listed here, and still does not work. I have removed the software, reinstalled older version, newer, latest version. It still gives me the same error noted above.
Any other ideas on how to fix this problem?

Hi 8thPaladin,
I'm sorry to hear you're continuing to have issues with the EOS Utility. Which version of EOS Utility are you trying to use? If you are trying to use EOS Utility 2 that will not work on current Mac operating systems. EOS Utility 2 is the only version of that program that can recognize your camera. That is a 32 bit program and newer Mac operating systems will not run or allow installation of 32 bit programs. Due to that you will not be able to use the EOS Utility for transferring your photos. At this time there are no plans to update EOS Utility 2 for newer Mac operating systems. You are able to use a piece of software built into your Mac computer called Image Capture to transfer photos.
If you are using EOS Utility 3 it would be good to double check which version you currently have installed. I do not see a listing for the camera body you are using, but you can download the newest version HERE. Once you are on the web page click on the Software & Drivers button. You will see an operating system drop down. Click on that and select macOS Sonoma v14. The current version is EOS Utility 3.18.41 for macOS.
If that is the version you are using we would need some more information for further trouble shooting. What model camera are you using? Are you seeing any error messages when you try to use EOS Utility, and if you do what does it say word for word? What function in EOS Utility is not working for you? How are you connecting the camera to the computer?

Have a 7D Mark II
Using EOS Utility 3 version 3.18.41 (3.18.41.0)
Connect with cable USB 2.0 on the computer side, USB 3.0 Micro-B on the camera side, the cable that came with the camera.
I have uninstalled the utility and used another program to scrub any lingering files off the computer. I used the link provided and changed the 7D mark II software. Installed the 3.18.41 for macOS, connected the USB to the camera, turned it on, and again got the same error.
"Communication with the camera via USB cannot be established. Start EOS Utility after closing all the apps that communicate with the camera, and then turn on the camera again."
I'm unsure what apps it thinks are trying to communicate with the camera, as I only have the EOS open and the browser I am using to write this on the taskbar.
I appreciate your help with this. What do I do next?

Hi 8thPaladin,
It would be good to double check the USB cable. The EOS 7D Mark II has a SuperSpeed USB 3.0 port. A micro-B connection wouldn't be enough for the camera to fully communicate with the camera. The USB cables we sell for the EOS 7D Mark II are the IFC-500 U II and the IFC-150 U II. They are SuperSpeed USB 3.0 to USB Type A cables.
