Greetings,

Pixel shift has come to the R5 in FW version 1.8.1.

I had a chance to check this out myself and the detail is awesome.  Pixel shift is not for everyone. as the files can be rather large.  If you want to see it for yourself, install v1.8.1 and grab the latest version of DPP.

For some reason, I'm only seeing 1.7.

Frankly, I expected more.

Lens breathing correction
Pre-shooting buffer
Removal of 30 minutes record limit
Vehicle tracking AF mode (bikes, trains & planes)
Additional tracking for more animals

Greetings ,

The list you posted were the speculated possibilities.  I personally was very skeptical that the 23:59 recording limit would be removed.  I knew that pre-shooting buffer and AF enhancements were higher on people's wish list.  Lens breathing correction was on there to.  The release of PS is important to some but not all R5 owners.  I have seen posts from some saying "that's it" and others who are pleased to see features being added to a camera in its third year of life.

v1.8.1 was on the Canon USA site last night when I posted this thread.  Now I don't see it either.

I did not wait for 30 minutes, but the others were features that could be added.

It's there now (Canon USA - 3/30/23 - 2:30 p.m.). I got it, but will probably wait a few days to install. 1.7 is still at the top, so you have to scroll down.

As of this morning 3-30-2023 FW v1.8.1 is not listed on the Canon USA Website.

It is listed on Canon Japan and Canon Europe

Firmware Version 1.8.1 incorporates the following enhancements and fixes:
1. Adds [IBIS High resolution shot] to the camera menu. By utilizing the in-body IS mechanism, it is now possible to record images with higher resolution.*
*Use EOS Utility/Digital Photo Professional to check the images. EOS Utility/Digital Photo Professional will need to be upgraded.
2. Adds [Save/load comm. settings on card] to the camera menu.
Network settings can now be transferred between cameras of the same model.
3. Adds the ability for images to be cropped and resized during transfer to the FTP server.
4. Adds Protect Images During [FTP Transfer] to the camera menu. Images transferred via FTP can now be automatically protected. The user can determine if images have already been transferred via FTP.
5. Fixes minor issues.

If the camera's firmware is already Version 1.8.1, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

Preparations for a firmware update:
After the downloaded compressed file (.zip) is extracted, a firmware folder is created.

*Extracting the downloaded file:
Right-click the zip file, and then select Extract All to extract the file.

In the folder you downloaded are the firmware (EOSR5181.FIR / file size: 53,442,368 bytes) and instructions on the firmware update procedures (a PDF file in five languages: Japanese, English, French, Spanish, and Simplified Chinese). Before starting the firmware update operations, please be sure to carefully review the instructions to confirm your understanding of the firmware update procedures.
