Eos Utility 3 App won't open or Immediately Crashes on Mac Mini 2

Hello, I just posted the below help request in another old post and would really appreciate it if someone out there could offer some assistance.

Hi, I have R6 MK2 and have installed the EOS utility 3 app on my Mac Mini 2 so that I can instal the latest firmware V1.5. But the EOS 3 app either won't open or crashes immediately.

After installing the eos 3 app, I restarted my mac but nothing happens. I connected a SD card to my mac and opened the firmware on my desktop and attempted to "drag n drop" onto the SD card, a message read that the firmware  already existed on the SD card but on checking, it's empty. Iv'e also attempted to connect my R6 direct to my Mac Mini 2 but all I get on the camera screen is the Mac and Keyboard silhouette with no link up to my Mac. I'm virus free but now at a loss how to proceed.

My OS is Sonoma 14.7.1 I know that's replaced by Sequoia but it was so "buggy" that Iv'e stayed with Sonoma and the Eos utility included OS Sonoma too.

Any help or advice much appreciated

Is the Mac Mini a supported platform?  I am asking specifically about the hardware, not the operating system.

Hi, thanks for your response, but I'm not sure what you mean by a "supported platform" can you be more specific, please. Much appreciated.

Does Apple Image Capture see your camera if you connect via USB?

Hi apologies for the late reply. I don't have any Apple image capture. I looked on the apple store and there are loads of various kinds.

When I connect my R6 MK2  via a usb c to my Mac Mini 2, on the R6 screen I see a silhouette  image of a computer and keyboard, which is I believe correct. The problem is that the Mac Mini is not seeing the R6, although it's hooked up correctly.

Many thanks Barny UK

Image Capture is an app included with your Mac. It is in the Applications folder. If you cannot connect to it check that you have authorized the USB device connection in Privacy & Security section of Settings.

Hi all

Again, apologies for the late reply, but I have made a little progress as outlined.

I established that the cause of the Eos 3 utility app crashing each time it was opened was due to "Rosetta". Apple support confirmed that "Rosetta" was required and needed to be installed, which I did via Terminal. After installation, Eos 3 opened and I was also able to read the "Read Me" details too.

I then connected my R6 to mac mini 2 via usb, and all that I can see on the R6 screen is a silhouette of a pc monitor & keyboard, plus a "full battery" The Eos utility launcher shows a box with a camera and connection line to a pc, and underneath that another box states "Pairing over Wi-Fi/Lan" but so far my R6 isn't seen on the Eos 3.

I did launch the "Image Capture' via applications, and yes, it shows my R6 MK2 under devices with my canon printer.

I'm not sure how to proceed now. Image capture can see my R6, Eos 3 is "pairing" over Wi-Fi/Lan, see screen shot,  but no success, I have an SD card via usb to copy the V3 update to, and I have the V3 update sat on my desktop as a dmg file. I have been able to open the V3 update, but when I attempt to copy it to the SD card, a message reads the it is already on the SD card, but when I check the card it is empty.

Any help / ideas always appreciated. Many ThanksScreenshot 2025-01-04 at 14.07.26.png

Go into the Canon Utilities folder. Go into EOS Utility folder. Go into EU3 folder and execute the EOS Utility 3 app.

Hi and many thanks. I did as you suggested and got the two below screen shots. I have closed all apps and attempted to connect the R6 but no success. The "Blue" dialogue will apply after the R6 is connected.Screenshot 2025-01-04 at 14.40.36.pngScreenshot 2025-01-04 at 14.41.00.png

Are you using EOSU version 3.18.5? Do you have any background applications running that would download images (like Dropbox?). You said you used Image Capture. Did you terminate operation? I tried on my MacBook and if IC was running EOSU3 wouldn't connect (but I didn't get the notice you did.).
