Which of these steps can you complete?

  1. Download the firmware update from the Canon website - Windows or Mac version to suit your computer
  2. From the downloaded file, open and extract the firmware file ending in .FIR
  3. Take the memory card from the camera, put it in the computer's card reader
  4. Copy the .FIR file from step 2, to the root of the card. Do not put it in a folder.
  5. Eject the card from the reader, and replace it in the camera
  6. Switch on the camera and navigate to the yellow setup menus and find the Firmware
  7. Select the Firmware menu item, and let the camera search for the firmware on the card
  8. When the camera displays the found update and a message asking you if you want to proceed, use the control dials and SET button - not the touch screen - to accept and proceed
  9. Wait for around five minutes without touching any buttons or dials while the update completes
