EOS 40D disk not supported, needs update error

I am trying to let my daughter use my old camera EOS 40D for school. I have the disk to load on her computer, but it won't allow. Says disk is not support needs update. Canon has retired the 40D so i cannot not find the utility download. Anybody got any suggestions?

I suggest using a card reader or a newer used camera.

Use the link below and select the Software and Drivers prompt to the right of the picture of the 40D. Page down a bit and you will find Software and Driver Results. If it isn't in the list hit the "load more" button and scroll to the bottom of the page you will find the utility.

If you are using a Windows computer you can download a digital image of the camera CD here under W7 downloads.

The updater software requires that the original application be installed.

If you are using Mac you can find the original EOSU under macOS Sierra but I am not sure it will execute on latest macOS.
