Best SD Card for 1100D

Hi... I currently have a Sandisk Extreme Pro 200MB/s 128GB card and wanted to know if there's a better card that my 1100D will support, particularly for a faster write speed. I don't want to spend lots on a fancy card if I'm not going to see the benefit. Thanks...

The best card to use with the xxxxD line of cameras seems to be the SDHC cards, 32GB or smaller.  Many users seem to experience memory card failure messages with the SDXC cards,  64GB or larger.  Success rate with the larger capacity cards seems to be pretty much hit or msss.  One things seems to be certain.  The larger and larger the card capacity, the more likely you are to experience memory card errors.

As far as R/W speed goes, the top R/W speeds of your camera are defined and limited by your camera hardware, not the memory card.  Using a higher performance card will not speed up your camera.  Just as using a higher performance fuel in your car will not increase fuel efficiency, using a higher performance card will not increase the R/W speed of your camera.

One last thing before I go.  SD memory cards should [NOT] be regarded as temporary storage.  They are not robust enough to store data for long periods of time.  Always copy your image files out of the camera without much delay.  And always remember to use the camera to perform a low level format on a memory card prior to first use.

In all honesty, I'd stop spending on cards, and look to update your 13 year old camera. EOS 1100D / Rebel T3 is limited by the speed of the camera's card controller so no amount spent on fast cards will speed up the performance.

I totally agree.  I forgot to add to only purchase full size cards.  Never try to use the micro-SD cars that need the plastic adapter.  Those adapters always seem to eventually fail.

1100D should have the same maximum write speed as 550D and 600D, around 21 MB/s. If your card has become slower you should just low level format the card in camera once to get the best performance.

Thanks for taking the time to respond... much appreciated 🙂 I'll stick with the card I have and format it. Maybe start saving for a new camera!
