BG-R10 firmware update

MrHolley
Contributor

This past weekend while shooting a communion, I had my camera randomly black screen on me. After turning off the camera and removing the grip a couple of times, I was fine. However, i noticed my grip isn't running the most current firmware. So I came on the site to update, but I am not finding any update links in drivers to update it. Any suggestions?

Greetings,

There is no FW for the BG-R10 I am aware of.

I saw something about a 1.4 FW and mine is using 1.0. So I assumed there was one

There might be camera firmware v1.4 but there has not been a firmware update for the BG-R10 itself. The BG-R10 has the possibility to be updated when attached to the EOS R5, EOS R6 or EOS R6 Mark II and is listed if it is attached and you go to the firmware update menu on the camera.

Can I ask a question about it?

Hi Leona, what is your question?

MrHolley,

Hi I have the same problem and send camera to Canon and they told me that they need to replace a circuit board that will cost me:  $770 USD.

What about you ? Is this a bug that can be fixed with firmware ?

This is the first Canon camera in years that I have a problem and the issue is not cheap to fix.

Nothing has changed.  There is no correlation between the grip and your camera's PCB failure.  There is no firmware available for the BG-R10. The motherboard on your camera failed.  I'm sorry it happened.  Its unfortunate, but has nothing to do with your grip which I'm sure you can continue using once the camera is repaired.

If it functioned normally and then suddenly began malfunctioning, then do not attempt a firmware update.  Firmware updates are notorious for failing to fix hardware failures.  Attempting to update malfunctioning hardware is highly inadvisable.

Make sure you are using genuine Canon battaeries that are fully charged.  Make sure your wireless communications are also disabled when you are not actively using them.

If your issues persist, contact Canon Support.
