Can you post a sample audio clip?  Is the audio from the Rode mic coming in at all? or just the buzzing?

If there's audio but with an ambient buzzing, it could be interference that the connection/cable between the mic and camera picks up on, or maybe the plug isn't inserted fully.

Hi paulchenier! In order for the community to assist you better we will need a little more information such as the model of your Canon product, when you’re having the problem, the type of microphone you’re using (powered, unpowered, powered by phantom power, etc.) and if you’ve tried other configurations/microphones to solve the issue.

Hello,

I have the same problem with my canon 5d mark3 and my Rode MIc SVM. The Camera and Mic are new. The sound of the Rode Mic is terrible I can't use it. It also only seems to function when the manual soundlevels are put to the max.

Which plug in are you talking about. Here is a videofile wth soundsamples of 3 different mics so you can listen.

Thank you

Me too, only mine is with a different lav: I have the Canon Vixia HF R400 camcorder and bought an Audio-Technica ATR-3350 Lavalier to use with it. I get a loud buzzing when I use it, no matter what the room light source is (fluorescent, incandescent, and none). New battery in the lav, and yes it's installed correctly. I've also tried to plug in earbuds so I can check the audio level during an interview and the buzzing is horrible. Does anyone know how to troubleshoot this issue to see whether it's the mic or the camera? I'm hoping the same info applies whether it's a RODE or AT.

Appearantly you need to turn of the automatic gain control in the camera

but that is not so easy

Thanks. When I follow the instructions in the manual to do that, I don't get the icons, so I'm guessing the Vixia 400 doesn't have the option to change the gain.

Update: had to find several different sites to explain the various steps, but I was able to set the camera to P, then find the audio icons to turn off auto gain control. Still have the buzzing, even with ambient light.
