LEGRIA HF G70 external microphone recommendations

Clearcomms

I have been using Canon HF-G40 camcorders to make videos of concerts and stage shows for some time, with a Canon HM100 microphone attached. I have now upgraded to HF-G70’s, which won’t take that microphone.

I have therefore bought an HM-E100 microphone, which connects via a 3.5mm mini jack.

BUT Canon tell me (without saying why!) that it isn't compatible with the G70, and that I need to get a different make of microphone.

I need an external microphone to get good music recording from some distance. I often use a separate Zoom H5 recorder, which gives beautiful sound, but the mic stand is visually intrusive, and it isn't always practical to use it.

So I have two questions for the community.

1. Can anyone tell me WHY the DM-E100 isn't compatible. I have connected it, and it appears to work.

2. Can anyone recommend an external directional microphone that is compatible, and will produce high quality sound? I don’t want to waste money, but sound quality is more important than low price.

I will aim to acknowledge all replies, so thanks in advance.
