I wanted to transfer movies from the camcorder to the PC as a friend wants a copy of the kids in the football game. Windows will not provide a usb driver for the camcorder

Hi MichaelW,
Windows actually provides the drivers for the camcorder.
Power is very important.
When you plug your camcorder into your computer as suggested above, then turn the camcorder on in the video playback mode, what do you see on the camcorder's display?

Try this, camera on and plugged in with usb cable, then hit the play button, the one under the on/off button on the body of camera. On the main screen under battery level, your camera has to be setup on mp4 to down load mp4 movies and pictures using CameraWindow software or setup on Avchd to download avchd movies using the Transfer Utility LE software. It doesn't matter where the movies or pictures are saved, internal memory or sd card, just what format(mp4, Avchd) the camera is set to at time of downloading to computer.

Try these options:
The best method is plug in the card to your computer SD slot and this work like USB flash drive.
If saved in internal memory, save to the card and proceed to do as mentioned above.
Using HDMI cable from camcorder directly plug to blu ray disc recorder.
