When I go to image effects and looks, I have turned on highlight priority but when I do, the camera doesn't allow me to take photos. Is there a way around that or not?

Photos are disabled when using Highlight Priority. No way around this.

To my knowledge, there is no way around this as I have had my G40 in highlight priority and you can only take pictures when in playback mode.

There is no way around it as you would need to take pictures in playback mode.
