VIXIA HF G70 HDMI out in camera mode?

ARGOSYBOB

I have been using Canon VIXIA camcorders for years when shooting my YouTube videos. My old camera (VIXIA HF R80) was able to output from the HDMI port while in camera mode, so I would hook up to an external monitor to use that as a large viewfinder while shooting my sewing machine repair videos. I just procured an HF G70, and for the life of me, I can't get HDMI output from it when used as a camera. Does this camera have that capability, and/or what am I doing wrong? I have downloaded the users manual and it has been less than helpful.

Greetings ARGOSYBOB,

The VIXIA HF G70 is capable of outputting a signal via HDMI, but there are a few settings that can sometimes prevent the image from appearing on an external monitor or capture card. First, please ensure your camera is in "Camera Mode" (Record) rather than "Media Mode" (Playback), as the output behavior changes between the two. If the screen is still blank, navigate to the Menu, go to the System Setup (wrench icon), and check the HDMI Resolution setting. Setting this to Auto is usually best, but you may need to manually select a resolution like 1920x1080 if your monitor doesn't support 4K signals.

Additionally, make sure you are using a high-speed HDMI cable and that it is fully seated in the camera's terminal, as these smaller connections can be a bit sensitive. In case it is still not working then we would suggest on testing a different HDMI cable with the camera.

Thank you! I will try some new cables, apparently, my older ones are not quite good enough!
