The EOS C50 older EF lenses only work in photo mode

Hi there. That's something I find really strange. I have a few older EF L lenses, such as the EF 85mm 1.2 and the EF L 20-35 2.8. I love using them for video work because they have a lot of character. They are working without any issues in photo mode on the EOS C50 (with the latest firmware), but in video mode the camera says, 'Lens not supported' and I can't change the aperture or focus.

I don't have any problems with the EOS C70 , EOS C300 Mark III or R8 models. Canon's firmware updates could possibly fix this issue, or is it because Canon no longer supports older lenses with new body mode?

Are there any people out there who have had similar problems with the EOS C80 or EOS C400 ?

Greetings ,

Regardless of the operation mode, photo/video mode, using a Canon brand EF to RF adapter is recommended.

Page 246 and 247 of the video user guide shows a list of compatible EF lenses.

Unfortunately, neither of yours are listed.  This is likely due to their age and communication standard.

The EF 20-35 f2.8 was released in 1989.  37 years ago. The EF 85 f1.2 is approximately 20 years old.  These lenses are not capable of supporting the communication standards of the C50 in video mode.

Thank you, Rick. They work flawlessly on my C70, C300MIII and EOS R8 (for both video and photo) with Canon's original RF-EF Mount Adapter. That’s why I was wondering if anyone had had the same experience with the C80, for example.

I noticed that the EF 85 f 1.4 is supported. 🤔. You can contact Canon support to get more information.  1-800-652-2666.
