Canon Vixia HF G70 - How to set Mic input to LINE

Randy358

Hi Everyone,

I"m a sports videographer and streamer. I have a range of Vixia camcorders. G10, G30, G40 x 2 and most recently I bought a G70. I often use a Zoom H6 to mix and send audio to the camera and I'll choose LINE for for the audio input instead of MIC.

I'm confused with the G70 because it does not have a menu option for choosing MIC or LINE. Does it do this automatically?

TIA,
Randy

Good ole Radio Shack.  Well a quick search yielded the Shure A15LA Line Adapter which will reduce signal by -50db. A colleague uses a Shure AS96F to connect a regular XLR mic like Shure 58 to the 3.5 mm jack. Other workarounds would be to use the audio line in on my YoloBox or connect mixer go my G40 and use it's audio in a multi-cam mix.
Lots of workarounds, but I guess that's what I get for not going for an XA model.

Greetings Randy358,

With the VIXIA HF G70, the MIC terminal is designed to only accept external microphones, and it was not designed to accept LINE IN connections from external audio devices. The camcorder's menu will not provide the option to switch the input between MIC and LINE-IN, and we do not recommend connecting a device that is not an external microphone into this terminal.

Gah! Thanks for the quick reply. Not the answer I was hoping for.

I guess the Vixia line up is now truly a consumer camcorder. When did Canon stop including LINE support? G50, G60? Had I known this I would have opted for a different camcorder then the G70, like an XA model. I'm already searching for workarounds. Either a converter for LINE to MIC level, or when I'm streaming multi-cam I connect my mixer to a G40 and bring it in that way.

Onward!
Randy

Radio Shack used to sell a cable that would attenuate line level signals to Mic level.
