Interesting. So its not a "bug" it's a(n exclusive) "feature" of the Z lenses (the 24-105 is the same), in that you can use the un-clicked focus ring as a control ring, I guess for video; as an alternative to permanent disablement of the click stops...

Thanks but my experience has been that depending on who you can get through to there you may or may not get an accurate response. That is why I prefer to find reference to published Canon docs where possible.
