What camera are you using this speedlite on. The pilot light when red means it’s fully charged. Green is quick flash or partially charged.

What mode is the camera set to. In the creative zone (M, Av, Tv, P & A-DEP) Modes flash firing can be disabled. Make sure it’s set to enable. Also with the flash on press the depth of field preview button. When the depth of field preview button is pressed. The flash will flicker brightly for a couple of seconds. This is what Canon calls modeling flash. Now the A.I. Bounce function won’t work because the camera is old. The in camera flash menu should also be available for you to change flash settings. If it’s not available something is wrong with the flash or camera. You should be able to access the flash’s settings from the camera menu. I have an example picture of the menu of another camera. But the flash settings are the same.
