Hello,
I purchased a Canon 90D and EF Lens 50mm 1.1.8 STM. I have a Canon Macro Ring Lite MR-14EX II that I cannot figure out how to fit my lens. Is there an attachment that will connect the two? Or are they not compatible? Do I need an alternative ring flash?
Thank you!

Your flash is designed to mount on a groove designed into Canon Macro lenses.
Other lenses can be used with the Canon macro flash, but you will need a “Canon Macrolite Adapter” that comes in 52mm, 58mm, 67mm and 72mm sizes. Since your lens has a 49mm filter thread, I would buy a 49mm to 52mm adapter and the 52mm Canon Macrolite Adapter.

Mike is certainly right. You need the Canon Macro Ringlite adapter and a suitable filter thread conversion adapter to make it fit your lens.
Just one suggestion: do you intend in the future to buy a specialist macro lens? For instance the very wonderful Canon 100mm macro lens? That lens uses a 67mm filter thread, in which case you might be better off getting the 67mm version of the Macro Ringlite adapter, and a third party 49mm to 67mm thread adapter to make it fit your present lens. That way when you get your 100mm macro lens you'll already have the Macro Ringlite adapter and won't need another thread adapter for it. Just a thought!

You won’t need to buy the Macro Ringlite adapter if you have a Canon Macro lens that already has the mounting grove built into the front of the lens. It’s hard to see but it is there on most Canon Macro lenses.
The Macro Ringlite adapter is only for lenses that don’t have the grove.
(the 100L Macro and 180L Macro don’t have the groove)
