Hello, Canon Camera! I want to applaud you for the additions of the latest STM lens lineup of the RF16-28mm F2.8 IS STM Lens, and the RF28-70mm F2.8 IS STM Lens for those that consider themselves "pro-sumers" - photographers with a higher level of skill and equipment than a casual photographer but may not work as full-time professionals. These lenses are especially great for travel, while still offering outstanding image quality. This post is to provide recommendations for expanding this lineup, particularly for the prosumer portrait photographer who likes to travel light with just one lens but still values the versatility of a zoom. This is a significant and underserved market you're missing out on, where many customers are forced to make compromises, so please read this message in its entirety. I know my recommendations' feasibility is reasonable because in 2016, Sigma released their fast aperture ART 50-100mm F1.8 DC HSM lens, which I will admit was amazing for the cropped sensor lineup, but it is important to note that it was close to a decade ago since it was released. It is extremely surprising that this design/concept hasn't been updated in close to 10 years. Strengthening the new STM zoom lineup with options that accommodate the portrait/sports photographers - those who also prioritize price, versatility, and compactness - could meaningfully strengthen customer loyalty and overall satisfaction, particularly among the majority of your user base who neither need nor can genuinely afford various L-series lenses. I sincerely hope these recommendations are seen and, furthermore, acted upon! Other options I am recommending within the modern STM lineup could include the following: (A) 35-50mm F1.8 (doesn't compete with the current 28-70 F2.8 option since it is a more compact focal length but with a different aperture), (B) 35-70mm F1.8 (might directly compete with 28-70mm F2.8, but at least offers a lower/faster aperture capability at the sacrifice of a wider view angle, which portrait photographers don't typically prioritize anyways), (C) 35-85mm F2.0 (similar competition as mentioned prior, but offers another well loved and ideal portrait focal length which could have an insurmountable appeal to a completely different crowd; a variable aperture or even fixed aperture to F2.8 would seem reasonable to keep price fair, that is how crucial the addition of the 85mm could be!), (D) 50-100mm F1.8 for reasons listed above in reviving the Sigma concept for RF, but would cause direct competition with the other options I just now provided, and (E) a 70-185mm F2.8 to give an alternative for a compact telephoto without the size or price of the full 70-200mm lenses. Should these be curated and offered, I, as a pro-sumer, would jump at the option of A (ideally B, depending on the size and price differences), and option E paired with the compact 28mm F2.8 STM pancake lens - no hesitation! Sincerely, a loyal customer since 2012.
