Shot this little guy this evening.

EOS 1D Mk IIn, Sigma 120-300mm f2.8 @ 300mm. f4, 1/320, ISO 800.  ISO 800 is not the 1d2n's strong suit but here it is.  ISO 400 is about as high as you want to go.  Lens correction done in LR along with a 100% crop.

pris796 That is a fantastic lens! (assuming the L version) I fell in love with using it but it just wasn't the right lens for shooting birds. I got some great bird shots with it though. There is a Rookery near me in High Island Texas where most of my shots are at 150-250mm where that lens would be more than enough. See my images on page 2 of the Great Egret at 240 and 290 ish mm. I took those with the canon 100-400 and the Sigma 150-600. Also check out my Red Winged Blackbird on page 3. It was shot with the canon 70-300L and cropped 50% ish. 

I would have purchased it but I have a 70-200 2.8 so it just didn't make sense for me. I tried to see if I could replace the 70-200 with it but even though my copy is the original mark 1 the 2.8 aperatrue is just to hard to over come when shooting my daughter dancing. 

Ebiggs: Love that shot of the hummingbird. I'm not familiar with 1DX bodies as they were so expensive I didn't bother to learn. Is that one of the older versions you have if it really doesn't do much over 400iso? The 1Dx I thougth was the flagship of crop sensors.

These shots were all done with my fairly old 1D MkII N.  It is limited prety much to ISO 400 if you want nice results.  It is in the 10 year old range now.  It is an APS-H size sensor and has 8MP.  But remember it isn't the size of the sensor as much as the size of the pixels on the sensor that counts.  8MP on this sensor equals to pretty large pixels.  

This shot of a Great Blue Heron landing was shot with the 1D Mk II N and a SIgma 120-300mm f2.8 lens at 300mm.

f8, SS 1/1250, ISO 400. Lens correction applied in LR. About a 50% crop, too.

"The 1Dx I thougth was the flagship of crop sensors."  The 1Dx and 1Dx Mk II are both full frame cameras.  They are not crop sensors.  They are the top of the line in Canon DSLR's.  Some would argue and with valid proof that the 1Dx Mk II is the best DSLR made today.

This was shot with a 1D Mark IV and the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM.

The lens can focus as fast as lightning.  Not sure what species.  It's either a grasshopper sparrow, or a Flintstone bird.

The T3 I puchase a bundles, 18-55 and lens kit 75-300, this is not a L version; I had the camera for three years now. I am going to upgrade, I was thinking about the 7D Mark II camera bundles, 18-135 lens kit 70-300 and I was wonder if the 70-300 is a L version, I can't remeber if it was or not I will have to check again. I also want to get an extra lens greater than the 300.

Great shot on Great Egret and the Red Winged Blackbird.

I can guarantee it is not the "L" version.  The Canon EF 70-300mm f/4-5.6L IS USM Lens sells for about $1400 bucks all by itself and it is white.
