What is the purpose/function of the enclosure in the photo? Because I didn't immediately know whether it was a corral or perhaps a water well with a fence to keep animals out, you made me study it closer. It's a nice trick to show something that others will wonder about. I really enjoyed this picture.

Maurigomezph,

What is the structure? Do you know?

Steve Thomas

I would have guessed to keep animals out too, but unless there is a cattle guard at the big opening, that doesn't seem to be it.   It is curious!

This spot is located along the Tre Cime di Lavaredo hiking trail in the Italian Alps (Dolomites). What you see here was once a shelter for livestock—typically cows and sheep—though it is no longer in use; it is situated very close to one of the area's main mountain refuges.
Battles were fought in these mountains during World War I.

I really liked the reflection and wanted the mountains to be visible, peeking out from behind the clouds. So, I framed the shot with that in mind.

Yes! That was one of the main things I looked for in the photo.
