Foster's Tern, smaller than all the gulls, with thinner and more pointed bill.  Its snappy, quick wingbeats and acrobatic flight makes it a challenge to photograph.  Distinguished from other terns by pale whitish wings, and orange-based bill, bright orange legs and an intense black cap.  Forages by circling and hovering over bays, ponds, and lakes then plunge-dives to snatch a fish.

Well done, terns are fast, and can be a little tough to identify in nonbreeding plumage.

TomRamsey,

You're absolutely right !   They're hard to identify and with their speedy acrobatics they're 3 times harder to photograph 📸  😁
