Getting the dreaded Code 2, 156, 33 on new Canon Lide 400

I bought a Canon Lide 400 at an Office Supply Warehouse several months ago.  It was sold as new.  This particular local office supply place sells older models of new office supplies.  It has been several months since I bought it or I would take it back.  I did not need it until now.  So I hooked up with the USB cable that came with it and went to Canons website and downloaded the latest drivers.  Upon hooking up to the computer the scan arm comes down to the bottom of the platen and stops momentarily and lights up for a second then goes back to the top of the platen.  When I press the 'scan' button on the scanner I get the error code 2, 156, 33 and the message about it not communicating.  Yet it is in communication if it knows I pressed the button on the scanner for it to give me the message.

I also tried the IJ Scan software and received the same error code.

I downloaded Vuescan and it gave me this message.  "Ensure the locking (transport) switch is unlocked".  It is definitely unlocked.  I looked at the locking mechanism since some of the 'tech support' people over at the Canon Support site had said to wiggle this lock switch back and forth.  This switch is connected to nothing.  It is just a little block that slides over into a slot to stop the scan mechanism from moving.  It literally connects to nothing.  So I do not see how wiggling this could possibly do anything.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled.  Tried different USB cables.  Yet it does communicate in some regard because when you press any 'scan' button on the scanner it starts the program which of course tells you that it can not communicate.  I have looked all over the net and can find nothing.  Has anyone found any solution?  Or did I buy a brick?

Hi,

Since the steps you have tried did not resolve the issue, I recommend reaching out to Canon support. You will need to register your Canon gear HERE to access additional support options.

We look forward to hearing from you.

I realize this is now something that you know but I have to remind myself of.  When I'm getting a deal in a situation as yours I try to remember to immediately unbox and use it just in case it doesn't work.  I'm very sorry that you are in your situation.  I've done the same thing myself more than once (most often on "open box" items).  That's why I try to remind myself to use it immediately if possible.  Hoping you get a simple resolution on this.
