Hello everybody, a couple of months ago I bought a Canon LIDE 400 Scanner "Opened But Not Used" on Ebay.. It came without a USB cable but I bought a USB-C cable which works fine with my Android phone.
However when I set it up on either my desktop (Windows 11 Pro) or laptop (Windows 11 Home) it seems to set up fine, it asks me to disconnect then reconnect the USB cable and setup is completed. The scanner arm traverses under the platen. But when I try to scan a photo with the scanner connected to either computer with either USB-C or USB 3.0 I get the message "Cannot communicate with scanner for these reasons - Scanner is turned off - USB cable is disconnected. Code 2,156,33".
Is there a particular spec cable I need for this or is there another fault ?

I did indeed download that package twice.
My desktop PC has an Intel Core i7 14700KF CPU, laptop has a AMD Ryzen 5 3500U.
You could download the free trial of VueScan by Hamrick Software. If that works you would narrow it down to a Canon driver issue. If it doesn't its a device problem.

I've received a reply from Canon and the suggested workarounds did not work. I asked them if they could sell me the official cable, they said they do not have one in stock and suggest I buy a USB-C cable which of course I already have. Since I'm getting nowhere I may as well accept defeat and sell it Spares Or Repair.
Thanks for trying to help.

Did you try VueScan?

VueScan detects the scanner but when I try to use it to scan a photo it says "Ensure the locking (transport) switch is unlocked" (It is). If I try the troubleshooter I get through it and none of the problems listed apply. There's no exclamation mark in Device Manager. Pressing the Scan button on the scanner simply results in the 2 , 156 , 33 error code.
