CanoScan 9000F – Gliding Part Slides when Tipped "Scanner reported an error"

I purchased a used 9000F scanner, and they didn't engage the lock switch. It doesn't appear to be physically broken, but when unlocked, the part that gets locked down freely slides front to back when tipped. It powers on, and when I attempt to scan on my Mac (macOS 12.2.1, Intel) I get the message "Scanner reported an error: Release the lock switch, turn the device off and then back on." The lock switch is unlocked, and I've attempted rebooting both the computer and the scanner.

Does it sound like it's physically broken, or is it possible there's a software error happening? If it sounds like the gliding/sliding part is misbehaving, is it possible to fix?

Hi,

The scanner may be able to be serviced but be advised, it may cost more to repair the scanner compared to replacing it.

You would qualify for the Canon Upgrade program. This is for out of warranty units which have been diagnosed to require service or are incompatible with a new or upgraded system. This program allows you the opportunity to purchase a replacement product discounted from the list price. Free ground shipping is included with your purchase.

If you would like to take advantage of this offer, please call our Sales Department at (866) 443-8002 Mon-Sat, 9 AM to 9pm EST excluding holidays.
