EOS C80 & C400 Questions about USB controls and open gate in firmware updates

The lack of communication from Canon is frustrating

Take the recent C80/C400 firmware update that added USB control support for example. There is no documentation or mention of what devices supports it. Are we supposed to figure features out ourselves?

C400 users have been asking for a compressed codec for open gate. No communication from Canon whether it's possible.

C80's lack of open gate doesn't seem to be limited by SD cards - again no communication from Canon on the possibilities.

These things matter so we can plan equipment purchases. C400/C80 open gate lacking? We'll add the C50 to our kit. Don't leave us in limbo. You can send in an email but simply not receive a reply.

This ongoing lack of transparent and proactive communication from Canon is frustrating.
We rely heavily on your tools and support to deliver for our businesses, but the silence falls short of professional standards.

Over at Sony world you have reps active on Facebook groups engaging their users, but here at Canon, we get the silent treatment.

A quick search revealed this relative to "Take the recent C80/C400 firmware update that added USB control support for example. There is no documentation or mention of what devices supports it. Are we supposed to figure features out ourselves?". Looks like it's up to the devices to determine if they support the Canon protocol, which seems to makes sense. Can't expect Canon to check third party devices.

Dear John, the mindset of not expecting Canon to check 3rd party devices misses the point of how modern production environments work. Cameras rely on an interconnected ecosystem of third party accessories like gimbals, monitors, wireless transmitters etc.

Saying a Canon shouldn't or can't document third-party compatibility completely ignores industry standards.

Companies like DJI actively maintain massive, highly detailed compatibility and functionality databases for practically every major camera brand and model on the market to ensure their gear works seamlessly together. Heck, even competitors like Sony have some form of 3rd party compatibility, documentation or guide.

When a camera company rolls out new features or changes communication protocols via firmware without proper documentation, it forces professionals to play a guessing game.

Is expecting basic transparency and open documentation for the sake of integration asking for too much?
