Canon XF305 forgetting date and time

Leejr

When the main battery is changed the date and time are lost and must be re-entered.  I plugged in the camcorder to power overnight which did not have any effect.  Is there an internal battery to be replaced?

Just a follow up: I called Canon just a few minutes ago. They were not able to provide any information on changing out that battery. Like me, the agent at first thought the CR2025 was the date/time battery, but after looking into it a little more closely, he said that it was not user changeable and it would need to be sent to Canon to have it replaced, to the tune of $400. Oh, well... at least now I know.

What is going on here?

Where are you seeing in the manual that there is a CR2025 battery in the camera?  It does not say that, period! Yes, there are cameras that DO use CR2025, in a user-replaceable holder. The XF305 is not one of them. It's battery IS NOT user replaceable, and a Canon person should have been able to tell you that, just by referring to the camera manual.

Leejr . . . Glad that you sent the camera in to have the battery replaced.

Page 197. Two references to a lithium battery, the latter of which mentions a CR2025 "lithium button battery". There is no mention of a remote or any other accessory, leading to an understandable assumption that the CR2025 was the camera's date/time battery.

Here it is, page 197 of the XF300/305 Manual, dated 2016, on the Canon Support site as we speak. The word "CR2025" does not appear.  Your assumption is not correct. No idea what the battery is. Could be some non-standard one, and possibly soldered-in. In any case, it doesn't matter. Still not user-replaceable.

Is this the manual you are looking at?
