Canon XA40 how to add date and time stamp to recording?

I'm having trouble figuring out how to add a date and time stamp to recordings on this camera. Usually most video camera's have an option to toggle a date and time stamp, but I can't seem to find it for this camera. Can anyone help me?

I want to show the real time date and time and have it be displayed on the recorded video clips.

Greetings,

Do you mean XA40?  I don't think an AX40 exists.

XA40 User Guide

Page 72 talks about setting a User Bit which includes date and time.  It only works on clips filmed in XF-AVC format and only to internal memory.  It does not appear to work with SD Cards. It may be different for external displays connected to HDMI out but I couldn't find information about this.

You can all Canon as well.  They are happy to answer questions and help.
