Can't Get My R5 C to Mount on Mac; RAW Video Not Downloaded

Qbert1000

I feel like a dummy posting this, but I'm having trouble importing my RAW video footage from my R5 C.  I can import the photos through the Canon Utility, and I can even import some of the proxy files, but I can't get the camera to even mount on my Mac.  Running the latest software on the Mac (Monterey 12.3.1).  Do I have to import through Premiere or Final Cut?  Or is there a simpler way to just drag and drop straight from the camera?  I'm currently connecting using the USB C cable that came with the camera (does it need an HDMI cable for RAW video?).  To be clear, I can access the files via my CF Express card reader, but not when I directly plug the camera into the Mac.  Thanks for any thoughts

Still in 2024 and Canon has HORRIBLE software interface to Final Cut Pro. You should just be able to plug in a USB C cable and all the stills AND video appear in the import window, and the internal chip appear as an external drive on the Mac desktop. There is no reason to not do this and give support to the customers. Does Canon not even understand what their customer base needs anymore? Why did I even buy an R5C if they won't provide pro level interfacing??

Hello Cre8tv,

You would need to use a card reader to download your video clips from this camera model to your computer. It's the same with all of our Cinema line of cameras. The clips are usually too large to transfer via USB. Some computers come with card readers built in. If your computer does not have a card reader built in, you would need to purchase one. Memory card readers can be purchased at almost all photography and electronic stores and photo departments in your local department store. Card readers are relatively inexpensive. When you purchase a card reader, be certain to select a card reader that can handle the same card that you are using in the camera.
