canon pro 1 continually gives error 306

I have Canon Pro 1 attached to iMac running Yosemite, using Photoshop CC and Lightroom.

I continually experience ERROR 306 when trying to print direct from Lightroom or using Canon Easy Photo-Print Pro

Message implies a connection fault but printer is properly connected and switched on.

I've uninstalled the printer and reinstalled it via System Preferences>Printers and this work for a short while but then the error message appears again.

Please advise lasting solution to this frustrating issue
