Pixma Pro-200 printer error 1700 ink absorber getting full

Joanna3

I'm getting an error code 1700 on my Pro-200 printer. I've read up on this issue, the ink absorber is "getting full". Does anyone know how long before it fills up and the printer shuts off?

I found out a few things: it's probably not repairable, Canon wants to sell you a new printer. Also, Canon doesn't offer any kind of free support, not even email. So far I haven't located a repair shop near Boston.

Does anyone have any light to shed on this subject? Is there any hope or should I just plan on replacing it soon?

Hi, thank you very much for the phone number. I'll try to get through on Monday. I guess they do charge for out-of-warranty phone calls. Oh well. It has been a good printer for almost 5 years now.

We decided it wasn't worth the hassle of dealing with a dying printer during a big card printing season, and that 5 years is a pretty good lifetime for the price, so we bought a new one, Pro-200S. So far it's great, uses the same inks and not a single mis-feed yet.
