PRO-1000 Nozzle Check Pattern: slight banding on CO...

Six-year-old PRO-1000 with moderate use. The Nozzle Check Pattern appears to be OK except for the CO. It has some horizontal banding toward the bottom of its section (see image). I've done some research and some have said this type of banding is not an issue but I wanted to see if anyone here had an opinion. I don't want to do a cleaning if it's not necessary. Hi DDA40X! Thanks for contributing to the Canon community.

I understand that you see some banding in the bottom of the Chroma Optimizer (CO) pattern in the nozzle check for your imagePROGRAF PRO-1000. Chroma Optimizer does not always deposit evenly on regular paper. If the rest of the nozzle check looks good and there are no issues when you print on glossy photo paper, there should not be a problem with what you are seeing in the CO pattern.

I did look at the photo you provided, and in my opinion the type of banding that you are seeing is okay. It would be a problem if the streaks were white. If the streaks were white, that would mean that some nozzles are clogged and the Chroma Optimizer is not fully being deposited on the paper. That could cause issues when you print on glossy photo paper.

The Chroma Optimizer is not ink. It's a clear liquid that is deposited over the top of glossy photo paper to give that paper its shine back. As far as the nozzle test is concerned, you just need to make sure you see vertical bars in the CO section. That will show if the Chroma Optimizer is making it through the nozzles.

We would be more concerned if the Chroma Optimizer was missing from the nozzle test (no vertical bars) or if there were white streaks. Since the Chroma Optimizer is not used with regular copy paper or Matte Photo Paper, it does not matter if the liquid is depositing unevenly with these paper types.

If you are seeing issues when you print on glossy photo paper, semi-gloss paper, or other papers that have gloss, please reply to this post. In your reply, please provide a photo of a sample print on glossy photo paper so we can look at the problem. We will also need to see a photo of the complete nozzle check pattern (not just the section that has the Chroma Optimizer).

Thanks again!
