PIXMA Pro-100 - printer initialization failure - wiggling printhead

Onky

The printer is nearly new, with 90% or so ink left in the original cartriges.

It produced the 5100 error in the middle of printing a page. Since then it fails to initialize as follows:

Upon turning on, after the rollers stop spinning, the printhead engages and starts wiggling left and right very fast, as if trying to find its own position, while slowly moving to the left. Then it quickly slides to the left (not all the way, though) and stops. The flashing light indicate the same 5100 error (2 cycles of orange/white flashes.)

The printer seems to have no idea where the printhead is: the above scenario occurs if the printhead is in the rightmost position initially. But if it is anywhere to the left, the same thing happens, and the last step causes the head to actually slam into the leftmost position.

The same thing happens if the ink cartriges are removed, i.e. the printer does not even get to that stage when it checks the ink level, etc.

Any ideas? Thanks!

Greetings,

There is only one possible solution.  If it doesn't work, the printer will require service.

For someone non-technical that would make sense, I agree. Yet I would like to troubleshoot the issue first befiore giving up.

Thanks!

Did you read the article I linked to in the post above?

Yep. Nothing new there really. Smiley Sad

I added the video to the original post above.

When I turn on the Pixma Pro-100, it begins to do its initialization but then makes a loud scratchy noise and the orange light comes on.  The printhead seems to try to move but gets stuck and I hear the loud scratchy sound.  Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I ran into exactly the same issue.

Any fix?

Thank you

If you have ensured that all tape and packing materials have been removed and that the print head and cartridges are seated properly then, since it is a new device, contact your local Canon office.

Even better, if possible, take it back to where you bought it.

Don’t mess around and possibly affect your warranty.
