Issue with brand new Canon Pixma Pro 10-S - smears and lines on the page

I've had this printer about 10 days and had this issue since the start. The printer is leaving both horizontal and vertical black lines on paper and smears on the edge of paper. There appears to be quite a lot of the photo black ink on the waste sponge, and it is showing on the software that as much photo black ink has been used as matte black ink, despite the fact I've been printing almost exclusively on matte paper (and used the relevant settings for this). I haven't been printing borderless, I've tried a print head alignment, roller cleaning, and bottom plate cleaning. The leaking(?) ink is black, no other colour that I can see. Sometimes I can hear it a sort of scraping noise as something catches the paper. This is using the original starter set of cartridges, not third party or refills.

SO... is this something I can fix??

Since it is a new printer I think your best option is to return it to the seller as a defective product. If that doesn't work contact your in-country Canon support line.

Greetings,

New printer, call canon.  I'd give them one (long) opportunity to resolve.

Then take the appropriate "corrective steps" to ensure I wasn't stuck with a printer that left smears on my images.
