Canon Pixma Pro-10 Blurry Images

MSteindl

Good morning, I have a Canon Pixma Pro-10 using with a MacBook Pro and printing direct from Adobe Lightroom. It seems every time I use a semi gloss or glossy paper my images turn out blurry. I just printed an entire matte photo book for a friend where I didn’t encounter any issues but when I switched back over to make an art print on Canon Pro Premium paper I keep getting blurry images with the colors also seeming slightly off.

I tried all the normal functions: Printhead deep clean, printhead alignment, etc. but I’m still getting blurry images. I am using after market ink and refilling the cartridges myself. The only other setting I messed with when using matte paper I had to select the paper abrasion function because I was getting ink marks when using the thicker matte paper. I turned it back off but it didn’t make a difference as far as print quality. It’s probably hard to tell by my example photos but the colors seem just slightly off and the image is kind of ghosting like it’s slighting  misaligned which could be causing the blur effect? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You said you are using third party inks. Do you have custom ICC profiles for the paper/ink combination?

I’m running the specific papers ICC profile which have been downloaded from the internet and dragged into my ColorSync folder in my library. So to answer your question, for the paper I’m using the custom ICC profile but not for the inks… I believe the inks are comparable to Canon OEM inks but I don’t know that for a fact as they came with the printer when I purchased it used. I did run two or three more deep cleanings today which has seemed to help…

When I refill a specific ink cartridge I’m simply just removing the cartridge, resetting it, then squirting the ink ontop of the cartridge pad and letting it soak in until I reach about 33 grams on my scale. I read something about removing air from the cartridge before filling but I haven’t done that… is that a necessary  step? It’s also just weird that my the images that seem to have problems are glossy/semi glossy papers.

Try printing this test image. Open in your photo software and print; do not make any adjustments regardless of how it looks on screen.

How does it look?
