imageClass MF656Cdw - Scanning Utilities Do Not Work on Mac - SOLVED, see first reply

I have a new imageClass MF656Cdw. All printer functions work perfectly, but none of the scanner software works at all. Latest downloads dated 11/27/2024. Neither MF Toolbox or MF Scan Utility can find the scanner. M1 MacBook Pro running Sonoma. It's not reassuring that the copyright dates on this stuff are 2012 and 2014.

FYI, the Windows versions work fine, but that's not a workaround I like.

Update 12/2/2024 - Spent about 25 minutes talking to Canon support and it's all fixed. If you see the same problems, it may be due to a previous Canon device entry locking out new device registrations. Deleting the old device in Mac OS and the Canon apps does not clear old devices completely out, they really need an uninstaller to avoid calls like mine.

Do this:

1) If you have installed the scan utilities (Scanner Driver & Utilities for Mac V2.15.17) go to Applications and delete the Canon MF Utilities folder
2) Go to Library>Image Capture and delete everything with the word "canon" in it
3) Go to Library>Launch Agents and do the same
4) Restart the Mac
5) Install the scan utilities (Scanner Driver & Utilities for Mac V2.15.17)
6) Open the Canon MF Scan Utility
7) Under Canon MF Scan Utility menu open Network Scanner Settings...
EIGHT) If there is an old Canon device listed, delete it
9) Add your new Canon device using it's IP address, not the displayed device name, to do this Click + then the IP globe icon at top right
10) Close the Network Scanner window and all should be well

Incidentally, this was the best phone support call I've ever had...and they did not want survey responses. Ironic!

The Scan function nor the fax function works on Windows 10 either.
