With the upcoming release of Windows computers that are powered by new ARM chips/processors, the compatibility of drivers for imageCLASS and other Canon products comes to mind.
Some of these new computers look interesting, but if the Canon drivers won't work with these newer computers, then that is problematic.
So, I'll ask the $50k question. Are the drivers compatible? If not, will new drivers be introduced shortly to make the transition from x86 to ARM as seamless as possible? 🤔
If new drivers are required, how far back in the Canon office printer line will Canon go with rolling out the new drivers? 🤔
Solved! Go to Solution.

I have a work around solution I will use (which I will test tomorrow). I am thinking I will set up an older Intel Win 11 laptop I have to accept network scans, but the folder will be either a MS OneDrive or Google Drive folder and then I will share that folder with her. Worst case, she will have to get her scanned docs from a web browser instead of her laptop Explorer shortcut. It should work.

I seem to be able to get connected to the printer, but am not able to print, as our device has a Department ID requirement which is normally found in device settings. With it not having the specific driver, I haven't been able to get it pulled up. We've got a Canon iR-ADV DX C5860i. Does anyone know of any work arounds on the department ID end?

Thanks for posting!
While our Forum Community members are welcome to chime in, Canon does not provide direct support for imageRUNNER series products, but your dealer will be able to help you!
If you don't have a dealer, please call us at 1-800-OK-CANON (1-800-652-2666) and we will be happy to provide you with the names of dealers who are in your area!

Another time a copy paste standard reply without knowing the topic. The dealer has no way to make a driver. Only CANON as the designer who holds the patented design, knows how to make the driver. If the dealer can provide the driver, they will be sued by Canon for having confidential info of the product.
This ARM driver problem will continue until a true Canon technical person read this. The moderator here just copy paste something they don't completely understand and yay their job is done.

I think the intent of the reply was to advise the poster that questions about the imageRUNNER product line are outside the scope of this forum and that concerns about the commercial/industrial platform can be addressed with an authorized Canon dealer.
Centers authorized to repair imageRUNNER products likely have copies of active/current software on-hand to perform repairs and upgrades.
But it is true that the deficiency of not having ARM compatible software will need to be resolved by Canon developers and not by repair center technicians.

My first time here. Almost a year later (end of February 2025 ) and Canon still do not have ARM drivers. I made a mistake and did not even think to check before I bought a Lenovo laptop running Snapdragon XPlus. I need full driver support for publication and design printing...basic old Microsoft does not cut it! I always use Canon printers but right now anything will do! Australia does not seem to be in the loop yet as just about every computer tech and salesperson I have talked to (after I bought the laptop and found the huge problem), did NOT KNOW of this printing problem! Very bad.

Unfortunately, as noted, Canon doesn't have ARM drivers for either the imageCLASS or imageRUNNER product lines. to be fair, I don't know which, if any, other manufacturers of printers do. For the time being, computers with Intel processors are the way to go for full feature printer drivers. 😐

Yep. I can definitely say that mf654Cdw scanner is not ARM compatible. When I bought it from Best Buy, they assured me it was. I wasted $100 on their Geek Squad, and the best they could do was install the generic Microsoft scan utility which has only the most basic functionality (no feeder, no duplex, etc.). I just spent an hour waiting on hold for Canon customer support and never did get through. At some point after I get past a wasted $350, I will probably get a non-Canon multi-function printer. However I am concerned that other manufacturers will have the same problem. Any suggestions on manufacturers whose products are ARM-compatible?

I don't know which, if any, printer manufacturers whose equipment is Windows on ARM compatible. Last I saw, even Canon's commercial/industrial family of copier/fax/printer/scanner models...imageRUNNER...do not have ARM drivers available.
Windows on ARM is still fairly new, so device manufacturers may be hesitant on reworking their offerings to fully support the platform.
I, myself, own Microsoft Surface computers. Microsoft is selling ARM computers for consumers and Intel versions for business users. Supposedly Microsoft will sell Intel variants to consumers, but they tend to cost a bit more than their ARM siblings. 😐
