iPad not finding Pixma MG5420 via AirPrint

Hi, Canon:

Sooo frustrated. My iPad Air running 8.1.3 (and several previous versions) has never been able to find my MG5420 via AirPrint to print to it. My Network Config Page shows that my Wireless LAN is Enabled; my Connection is Active; the Signal Strength is 100%. When I attempt to print, I'm told, "No AirPrint Printers found."

As a test, I tried using Google Cloud print, and that worked. Problem is that I don't ever need to print via that method.

I have googled the bejesus out of this problem over the months that I've had this problem, and haven't found one iota of useful information. Canon's support page consists of "Turn the printer on, and AirPrint your documents!"

I'd be so grateful for some assistance that I'd cry if paper started spewing from my printer. I'm a disabled vet and bought this printer after scrimping and saving and all it's done is collect dust and I'm bereft.

Oh: I have a Mac and I turned on Printer Sharing via Ethernet for devices using Wifi. That hasn't helped any, either.

Thanks for helping me out with this. I'm ready to rip my hair out by the roots!

Hi BinkyM,

 

You will want to ensure that the Bonjour setting on the printer is enabled.  If the setting is disabled, you will not be able to print via Apple AirPrint.  To ensure the setting is enabled, please follow these steps:

 

1. Navigate to SETUP from the main screen of the printer.

 

2. Press the third Function button below the screen to display the SETUP menu.

 

3. Use the left/right arrows to select DEVICE SETTINGS, then press the OK button.

 

4. Use the up/down arrows to select LAN SETTINGS, then press the OK button.

 

5. Use the up/down arrows to select OTHER SETTINGS, then press the OK button.

 

6. Use the up/down arrows to select BONJOUR SETTINGS, then press the OK button.

 

7. Use the up/down arrows to select ENABLE/DISABLE BONJOUR, then press the OK button.

 

8. Use the up/down arrows to select ENABLE, then press the OK button. The printer will enable the setting and then

display a confirmation screen showing that it was set.

 

9. Press the HOME button to return to the main menu.

Is your printer connected to your Mac by USB or WiFi?

I can't print from my Mac via wifi, either, so when I need to print, I connect a USB cable.

I've always wondered: my wifi network is passworded with WPA2. Does this have anything to do with me not being able to print, because I need to enter a password to access the wifi network? Could that be the problem?

Even if your wifi is password protects you should be able to connect printer via WPS.

Um, okay; HOW? Again, the instrux tell me to select "Print," select my printer, and then print. It's not happening. I've been through Apple's troubleshooting tips, and I'm not printing. So what do I do now? I've provided the info from the Config sheet my printer spits out.

I'm not a low-end user; I've been using micros since 1983 (Apple ][, Apple ///, IBM PC, Mac 1985-present, and iPods, iPhones, and iPads, and did Mac tech support for 27 years), but I'm stymied by this because of the dearth of info on the net. Everywhere I look, I'm told, "Plug it in and print." That's not working. There's no AirPrint printer to print on, either on my iPad or my Mac. (Or my iPhone, but I didn't even expect that to work because it's an iPhone 4; I was surprised when it gave me the option.)

Aside from the fact that I've been there already, the "help" there consists of "Make sure the printer is powered on and has paper in it." I mentioned this in my initial message.

The link there to "Go to Wireless Help Homepage" leads back to that page!

The net is littered with messages from owners of the same printer asking for help, with no solution. I gather I'm not gonna be getting any help either, Huh?

There are 20 pages of instructions for setup. If you have followed all of that and can't get it to work then you should probably call Canon. You can get their phone number on the support page for your printer.

And all of it is for the Mac and the PC; not one page addresses the iPad.

So I'll call Canon.
