Windows 11 and Toolbox ImageClass MF227dw: unable to get Toolbox to work with scanner

I cannot get the Toolbox to work with the scanner on Windows 11. The error message that comes up when I click on the Toolbox icon says that the scanner is either disconnected or not on. I have tried using the Windows 11 troubleshooting tools, the Windows !0 USB driver patch, installing and restarting after installing the driver and the toolbox.

My Imageclass printer has buttons for Copy, Fax and Scan. When the Scan button is pressed, a menu with Computer, Remote Scan, and Memory Media options. I have to choose Remote Scan for MP Toolbox to see the printer. Is your printer similar?

I've read the manual. Unfortunately, this printer doesn't work the way yours does. Thanks anyway, though.

I've tried installing it with and without the feature release 24H2. Scanning won't work either way.

Does anyone out there know whether the Toolbox relies on WINS to communicate with PCs?

Can you print? If you can, then WINS is not a factor. It's not likely it would be a factor anyway.

Yes, it prints. I also installed the driver update, no dice. I also tried running the scanner on a separate user profile, also no joy.
