ScanGear MF Code: 155,0,0 when trying to scan

I have a Color ImageCLASS MF656Cdw. When I try to print using Canon MF Scan Utility (from Windows 11), using Scan Now, Document, the printer scans, and after several seconds I get a ScanGear MF Cannot communicate with the scanner. The cable my be disconnected, or the scanner may be turned off. Check the scanner status and try again. Scanner driver will be terminated. Code : 155,0,0

Obviously the cable not disconnected, and the scanner isn't turned off, since the scanner worked after I gave it the command from my computer. I am connected by USB, and the device prints just fine when i send it print jobs from my computer.

I think you may have a problem with  Windows Image Acquisition Service. If tis is not enabled your scanner will not work properly.

Turning On the Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) Service in Windows 11

To enable the WIA service, follow these steps:

Step-by-Step Instructions

  1. Open the Run Dialog
    • Press Windows + R on your keyboard.
  2. Access Services

    • Type services.msc and press Enter. This will open the Services window.
  3. Locate the WIA Service

    • Scroll through the list of services to find Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
  4. Start or Restart the Service

    • Right-click on Windows Image Acquisition (WIA).
    • If the service is stopped, select Start.
    • If it is already running, select Restart.

Additional Configuration (if needed)

  • Set to Automatic:
    • Double-click on the WIA service to open its properties.
    • Under the Startup type dropdown, select Automatic. This ensures the service starts automatically with Windows.
  • Log On Settings:

    • In the WIA service properties, go to the Log On tab.
    • Select Local System account and check the box for Allow service to interact with the desktop. This can help with driver communication.
  1. Restart Your Computer
    • After making changes, restart your computer to apply them.

WIA was running, but I went ahead and restarted it. Tried scanning, and it worked just fine. So either that fixed it or it's an intermittent issue. Thank you.

You are welcome, MSC programs can just lock up and stop and not change the indication to running.
