SELPHY CP1300 connects but does obtain working IP - 169.254.XXX.XXX

Cp1300 connecting to an ASUS A3100, 2.4ghz, WPA2, AES, 20mhz, chanel 11.

It confirms it is connected to the correct SSID.  When confirming the settings the ip address is 169.254.xxx.xxx (should be 192.168.1.xxx). It does not appear on the network, can't connect to the app or through windows 10.

Connecting through direct connection works fine. I was able to connect it to the network and to it across the network at a buddies house running Orbis.

I appreciate anyone willing to.jump in with an idea. I'm stumped.

Greetings,

Printer will connect to a 2.4Ghz broadcast

Only supports b/g wireless

Wi-Fi® (Wireless LAN, 2.4 GHz, IEEE 802.11b/g)

RT-3100 supports:

802.11a : 6,9,12,18,24,36,48,54 Mbps
802.11b : 1, 2, 5.5, 11 Mbps
802.11g : 6,9,12,18,24,36,48,54 Mbps
802.11n : up to 600 Mbps
802.11ac : up to 1734 Mbps
1024QAM (2.4GHz) : up to 1000 Mbps
1024QAM (5GHz) : up to2167 Mbps

What I suspect is that you might have SMART Connect enabled on the Asus (using one SSID for both 2.4/5G) broadcasts.

Try disabling this feature temporarily, give the 2.4Ghz broadcast a unique name, and see if the printer will then connect.  A 169.254.xxx.xxx means the router is not assigning an IP and the printer is not connecting.

Excellent idea. Regretfully, I have separate SSIDs for 2.4/5ghz. I also have my 2.4ghz on 20mhz only.

I know you got connected on a neighbor's Orbi, so you are familiar with the connection process.  Why your device won't connect to the Asus is strange.  It certainly provides what the printer would need from a wireless and security standpoint.

Try reserving an IP for the printer by its MAC address, then restart the printer and attempt the connection again using the Selphy App.

I did manually assign an ip for the MAC address through a dhcp reservation. I also manually configured the ip address in the printer (in separate tests). It always says its connected but the app is not visible on the network, in the android app, nor in windows.

It is a serious conundrum.

I have the exact same problem...with PixmaMX922.
Just about to trash this thing and purchase $30 one at Walmart at this point!

Same issue. I've went through all the same troubleshooting steps. Same problem with cp1300 Selphy on Samsung S22 Ultra. I even updated the firmware on the printer.

If I connect it using Auto, I get a 169.x.x.x address indicating it's not getting an IP. I can give it manually with no change, but the app won't let me enter a manual IP address of course. I do have a firewall in place (Sophos XG) and the firewall is using a DHCP helper to rebroadcast the DHCP messages. But even if I give it a static IP, and both devices are on the same network it still doesn't work.

Also, very confused why the printer doesn't ask for a gateway address. That means nothing outside of that one network can talk to it.
