PIXMA iX6820 - help setting up wireless

Hello I need help setting up this printer wirelessly.

I have downloaded the canon print app on both my iPad and iPhone it does not detect/connect. (I have seen where ppl have had no issues with this.) Yes my iPhone and iPad are on the right WiFi network.

I have connected it via wired connection from Ethernet to a usb hub to usb-c to my MacBook running sequoia 15. I tried going on one page and downloading software and it had said error another user in use. I got it by going to another page and downloading it and it worked fine.

I have downloaded the network tool but it is saying it doesn’t see the printer connected via usb.

I have checked to show in the system report on MacBook that it is showing its connect via usb hub 2.0.

I have turned off the printer/unplugged it. I have turned off my router and turned it back on. I have two separate frontier wifi - one 2.4 ghz and one 5.0 ghz. It does have wpa2. I did press what I believe the wps button was but no luck still. (Something suggested connecting to a canon wifi network but nothing showed up under my wifi)

I’ve tried to do all the steps I could find. I might have to pay a tech wizard to set this bad boy up. I also have never had this issue with a printer before! It shouldn’t be this difficult.  😭😭

Any advice?!

Hi kayshort789! Thanks for contributing to the Canon Community! I see that you are having trouble connecting your PIXMA iX6820 to your Wi-Fi network.

I see that you mentioned that WPA2 is turned on at the router. If both WPA2 and WPA3 are turned on, you will need to turn off WPA3 and just leave WPA2 on by itself. You only need WPA3 turned off while you are in the process of connecting the printer to your Wi-Fi. Once you are able to get it connected, you can turn WPA3 back on.

Routers have different ways for turning WPA3 off. Some have a switch that you can just turn off (within the settings). Others have a WPA/WPA2 and a WPA2/WPA3 setting. If your router has those two options, you need to choose WPA/WPA2. If you are not certain that WPA3 is off, I recommend contacting your Internet Service provider (if they issued the printer to you) or the router's manufacturer.

You also mention that you have tried using the Canon PRINT app to set up the connection. Please go to your devices App Settings window to check the settings for the Canon PRINT app. Please make sure that all permissions are being granted. If any permissions are being denied, the Canon PRINT app may not work properly.

Once you are sure that the permissions are being granted, please do the following:

  1. Use the printer's power button to turn your iX6820 off.
  2. Once it has finished turning off, turn the printer back on.
  3. Close the Canon PRINT app on your device (if it is currently open).
  4. Open the Wi-Fi settings window and leave it open.
  5. At the printer, hold down the Wi-Fi button and let it go as soon as the Power lamp blinks 2 times. Do not let the power lamp blink more than twice before letting go of the button.
  6. Look at the Wi-Fi settings window on your device and connect it to the signal that starts with "canon-ij." While your device is connected directly to the printer's signal, it will not have Internet connection. That is okay.
  7. Re-open the Canon PRINT app and tap on the SEARCH button.
Note: From this point on, the steps can be different depending on the device.
  8. If you get a message asking if your printer is listed below, tap NO.
  9. When you get a message that starts with "To setup network connection...," tap OK.
  10. Tap on JOIN in the next window.
  11. Select your router.
  12. Enter the Wi-Fi password and send it to the router for approval.
If the printer connects, the lamps on the printer will stop blinking.
  13. Add the printer to the app.
  14. Close the app.

If WPA3 is turned off, you should be able to enter a password after selecting your router in steps 11 and 12.

If the setup with the Canon PRINT app does not work, you can try using the IJ Network Tool that is available for download through our printer's website. For the Network Tool to work, the printer driver must be installed. The printer also needs to be connected "directly" to your computer.

If your computer has oval-shaped USB-C connectors, you will need to purchase a cable that has a USB-C connector on one end and a USB-B connector on the other. The USB-B connector (square-shaped) will fit on the back of the printer. The USB-C connector can be connected directly to the computer.

We do not recommend using external USB hubs or adapters. You need a cable that will work without a use of a hub or adapter. The cable should also be no longer than 6 feet (maximum length).

The instructions for using the IJ Network Tool to set up the connection can be found here:

I hope this information helps. Thanks again.
