Have you installed the printers driver from its support portal? If you are using USB, this should be done before connecting the printer.  The installer will prompt you to connect the printer.  

The TR4722 does not support multiple simultaneous connection methods.  You should use one or the other connection method.  This could be why you are having difficulty.  I suggest you pick one or the other. Recommendation: A wireless connection is the most flexible since it allows any device connecting to the same network, regardless of its connection method to utilize the printer.

@Tiffany asked about your connection method and OS?  Your reply included the operating system only.  

The printer requires a connection to the internet in order to be able to check /  upgrade the firmware using its LCD.  

If it has a connection to the internet, the following are common reasons why firmware updates might fail.  Firewall, 3rd party anti-virus or DNS settings can keep it from communicating with the update servers.  

Upon review, I don't see any available firmware posted for the TR4722. It's possible none is available.

You can check the support portal periodically, and also on the printer.

Printer is connected with USB cable & has an assigned IP address on the LAN. Printer will only print from Android phone; it will also scan from laptop. I thought maybe the firmware was the issue.
