Free Layout Plus - Running from or with a print server

Hello all

We are trying to set up Free Layout Plus to run with a printer that is located on a Windows Print Server. The printer is a TZ-32000 roll prnter. What we have tried is:

Installed the printer on the printer server

Installed the TX-32000 drivers

     Printer works fine

Installed Free Layout plus on the server

I can test from the server and that works

I then Share the printer and add it to my computer

I try to print and the system opens up Free Layout Plus on the server. We do not want that to happen since the users will not be able to access the server

I install Free Layout Plus on my computer

Free Layout Plus does not see any of the network printers.

I install the printer driver on my computer and I am now able to see the local printer only in Free Layout Plus.

With different tests it seems like I cannot get Free Layout Plus to work with a shared printer.

Has anyone else tried to get this to work and am I just spinning my wheels trying to get this to connect correctly?

Connecting a TZ-32000 Roll Printer to Free Layout Plus Print Server

To successfully connect a TZ-32000 roll printer to the Free Layout Plus print server on a network, follow these steps:

Step 1: Network Setup

  • Ensure the TZ-32000 printer is properly connected to the network.
  • Verify that the printer is powered on and ready for use.

Step 2: Install Printer Drivers

  • Install the necessary printer drivers on the print server. This is crucial for the printer to communicate effectively with the server.

Step 3: Share the Printer

  1. Open the Control Panel on the print server.
  2. Navigate to Hardware and Sound and select Devices and Printers.
  3. Locate the TZ-32000 printer icon.
  4. Press the Alt key to display the File menu.
  5. Select Printer properties and then go to the Sharing tab.
  6. Check the box for Share this printer and set a shared name if needed.
  7. Click OK to confirm the changes.

Step 4: Additional Driver Installation (if needed)

  • If the print server and client systems have different architectures (32-bit vs. 64-bit), you may need to install an additional driver:
    • Go to Print server properties and select the Drivers tab.
    • Use the Add Printer Driver Wizard to install the appropriate driver for the client architecture.

Step 5: Client Setup

  • On the client computer, open Explorer and double-click the shared printer icon.
  • Follow the prompts to install the printer driver on the client system.
